Leap & Unfold Wings - Shadowbox Mixed Media

Hi Everyone!

"Leap, then unfold your wings on the way down"...I find this quote so inspirational. To me, it says so much. When trying to achieve your goals; you prepare yourself, make plans, think about it, and repeat this cycle because you think you are going to act on your goals when the time is right, or when you have everything figured out. There are times when you just have to just take a leap of faith and just do it, and figure things out along the way.

How it's made

I used an 8x8 canvas. I used various material: lace, pearls, clay, resin, wood, metal, acrylic paint,  and modeling paste. The flowers are the Color Me Crazy plain white from Petaloo. I started out by painting stencils with Modeling Paste for texture and lace for the center and sides. Then added various metal and wood embellishments, and flowers. I then Painted the whole with Gesso, then sprayed it with the shimmer sprays. I used various color sprays: corals, green, white, gold, beige.

I made the dress form, wings and planter out of Fimo Polymer clay. A 16 gauge galvanized steel wire holds the dress form. The dress is made out of lace and plain white fabric which I also painted to match the rest of the piece. Now go out there and unfold your wing and make things happen!

 

 

Live Simply-Shadowbox Mixed Media Project #2

Hi Everyone!

In my last post I created a Live Simply shadowbox piece. I like this mantra so much that I decided to create another piece using the same mantra. This time I created an all lace canvas with embellishments, no paint was used. This time instead of going with a nature theme, I decided to go with a vintage look, which also conjures in my mind a simpler more innocent time.

How it's made

I used a 5x7 canvas, used different types of lace, pearls, linen paper, hemp string, and paper butterflies and flowers. The flower are made out crochet and hemp string and used a vintage looking brad as the flower's center. The word were printed on linen paper; which is so cool, cause it looks just linen, but you can print, stamp, etc. I used this vintage typewriter font, I downloaded for free from Google docs just for this project. I liked this font so much so much I used the same font for other art projects. The  butterflies and flower are made from paper. That is all I have on this very snowy day. Enjoy, the simple life!
