So one of my all time favorite poems is from Emily Dickinson, I Dwell in Possibility. She uses a house as an analogy to describe how with poetry it's possible to have an expansive, limitless view of the world. This is what I think the poem is talking about, at least. Like any great poetry, people have a different take on this poem. The phrase alone is inspiring and conjures up many images, which is the reason I decided to make this canvas with brushes. Art opens up our imagination to possibilities. Plus it's a good way to upcycle old art brushes.
How it’s Made
For this project I used a canvas that measures 11x14. I started by applying texture chipboard, then painted the entire canvas with gesso. Before I started painting, I planned my color scheme, and decided how I wanted to blend the colors.
I painted old brushes with gesso first. It covers old paint and imperfections. I then painted the brushes with color paint. The metal part of the brushes is painted with silver paint. I stamped the brushes with shapes, and text using Staz-On ink. I think the stamps give the brushes an interesting look. The letters are made of chipboard and were painted with gesso, then painted with a gold color. The metal embellishments; butterflies, keys, keyhole, gear was also painted with gesso, then painted with color acrylic paint. For the flowers I used plain white flowers, which I painted with Lindy's Gang Stamp spray paints.
