Birds of a Feather-Assemblage

Hello Makers!
 The month of love is almost over, but before it's gone, I have created a small "love" theme piece to submit to several challenges.  The moodboards colors are a combination of turquoise/teal, browns, grays, and reds. I have to admit, I have not tried using these color combinations in my art before, but in the end, I really ended up liking the colors. The "Together" In the More than Words Feb Challenge prompted "Birds of Feather Flock Together" quote. I like to create small, so I knew I wanted to use just the ampersand symbol and small birds.

For the substrate I used a 5"x 5" Clayboard. I made the birds and ampersand out of Premo Polymer Clay and painted the entire piece with acrylic paint.

I am so excited about Lindy's Stamp Gang February Color Challenge. The colors are awesome...well they are always exciting to me.

For my submission, I knew I did not want to create hearts or too much valentine theme for my project. I wanted to challenge myself even further and do something else using the colors. I decide to make a little Burgundy dress and using the phrase"playing dress up"; something we do as kids. In my story, the dress has come out to play, while it's owner is away, which is why I have home interior theme. I know it sounds silly, but fun, nonetheless.

How it's made

I used a cigar box. For the walls, I used a thick, textured, handmade paper; it nice and porous. The window is made of watercolor paper. For the the walls and window I used the following Lindy's Flat Fabio colors: Sidewalk Chalk, Cafe au Lait, South Shore Sand and Moon Shadow Mist Buccaneer Bronze.

For the outside view of the sky I used Starbursts: Tiffany Lou Blue, Clam Bake Beige and Tibetan Poppy Teal.

The dress is made of handmade paper; which is thicker and stronger than tissue paper and I have colored it using Starburst Maple Crimson. I sculpted the dress bodice out of clay, I then created a cast out of paper mache and the paper dress was glued to the bodice.

The table is made made of water color paper and has been colored with Sidewalk Chalk and South Shore Sand. The vase is made of paper clay and has been colored with Sidewalk Chalk. The flowers are made of velvet and are from Petaloo.

Winter Bird - Assemblage

Hello Makers!

I would like you to meet Mrs. Higgimbotham, pictured below. She lives up north...you know, up north. She is waiting for hubby to come back from hunting; they need to stock up on food for the rest of the winter. Come spring, the little ones will be born. While waiting for the Mr. to get back, she made herself a scarf and hat using burlap she got from Canvas Corp Brand; they do deliver everywhere, even up north.

Ok....so I had too much fun creating Mrs. Higgimbotham, that I created a story around her. I made this project for the Canvas Corp Brand (CCB) Februrary Challenge - Cold Weather #ccbchallenge. Mrs. H. is made using CCB's red canvas. I used a blanket stitch with embroidery thread. I have also stitched a freshwater pearl for the eye. I added some vintage lace on the wing. Her hat and scarf is made using CCB natural burlap.  The nest  is made of CCB's natural burlap and jute. I sculpted the eggs out paper clay and painted them with teal and brown acrylic paint.

I used a cigar box for the substrate. On the outside I stenciled and painted it, mainly because I wanted to hide the cigar embossed letters. For the inside I used texture paste, added markings, then painted it with white, teal and blue acrylic paint and glitter. I used artificial leaves, green and Spanish moss; all which have been painted white, textured and glittered.

Colorful Creations DT Word Challenge-Lil Box of Love

Design Team project for our Feb mid-month Feb challenge at Colorful Creations, Little Box of Love Keepsake box. This box can be used to give someone as a gift and include a memento, a poem, inspirational quotes, tickets for household chores.

The mid month challenge is "words" and they are: LAYERS, LOVE, COLD AND JOY.  Please incorporate one of these words into your project.  It can be in the way of the title, picture, pattern paper, etc… let creativity be your guide!

Little Box of Love Keepsake Box

For my design I embellished a small paper mache box. I painted the whole thing in gesso, then red paint. For the lid, I wrapped a glittery ribbon around the edge.  For the top of the lid, I used three layered cardstock shapes, which I cut out using a paper punches. I have also used silver and red heart resin rhinestones.

Happy Valentine's Day Makers!

Naturally, I bring you love today. So one of many things I like making is assemblages, shadowboxes, dioramas, whatever you want to call it...I simply like the ideas of things inside things; it's like peeking into a little, but completely different world. I made this piece using Polymer Clay, real hardware (the pulley), wire and paint. I like quotes, clouds and hearts. So this quote inspired this piece. 

How it's made

I used a cigar box. I stenciled the outside, then painted the whole thing in various blues, teal and white. I sculpted the moon, hearts and clouds using Premo Polymer Clay, then painted it with acrylic paint. I stamped the words onto the clouds. To add color to the words, I painted the clouds with a watered black paint, then wiped it off, allowing the paint to go into the grooves, then repainted again with white. I sculpted the basket out of wire, then painted it. I used eye screws to attach the chain and pulleys. Everything is being held in place with Epoxy Clay.

Lil Wonky Village-Altered Bottle

Hello Makers!

So Canvas Corp #ccbchallenge is having this cool and unique challenge; create an Architecture based project in celebration of their 7 Gypsies new product line called 'Architextures'. The winner of this challenge gets cool Canvas Corp swag. Since I don't do much by way of layouts, I don't have scrapbooking paper with buildings/homes, but I do love to play with clay. So decided to sculpt little villas using Premo Polymer clay onto a Cologne bottle and baked it into the bottle. I have painted every thing with teal (my fav color) and white. I imagine myself me living in one of the villas overlooking the beach and creating art on my balcony all day.  Hope you enjoyed visiting my wonky village.

Steampunk Altered Bottle

Hello Makers!

Today I bring steamy art...a steampunk altered bottle. I just love making steampunk/industrial anything. The bottle is the classic glass coke bottle.  The sheet metal is made entirely out of Premo Polymer clay, which baked into the bottle. The gears are made of chipboard, and metal and all the rivets and screws are made out of clay. The porthole and wingnut is real hardware. Epoxy clay was used to to secure the stopper. The whole thing was painted with Finnabair Heavy Black Gesso, then treated with metallic wax.

Geared Up-Birthday Card

My little brother's birthday is coming up, so I decided to make him steampunk/industrial theme birthday card. Although, he's not too familiar with the genre. It's okay he likes big sister's homemade gifts...he's sweet that way. This was a quick, easy and fun project. I rarely make cards. I had a handful of card stock paper of various colors that I had for while, for just in case situation.

How it's made

I used card stock paper, painted the chipboard gears in black then metallic paint. The gears are from Creative Embellishments. For the words, I printed them from my computer. The faux rivet, are metal iron-on studs, used in sewing. I simply ripped out the opening and used a backing to hold the gears. The backing has been painted with Golden Sepia paint. The entire piece has been treated with Ranger Vintage Photo ink and tinge of metallic mist.
