Tree Zipper Sculpture

Hello Makers!

One of my favorite symbolic artifacts that I like to use in my art are zippers. I mainly been using zippers on my bottles; like my Lost for Words bottle, or Found Diamonds bottle, or Faces bottle. With one exception, I used a zipper on my Beginnings collage. This time I decided to use a zipper on my tree, in this sculpture I call 'Unbinding Nature'.

A little about this piece. One day I was making one of my wire tree sculpture, a windblown tree and I was looking for reference photos and ran into an image of a tree that was split in half, it was hit by lighting. It was so cool looking...I do feel bad for the poor tree though. I wanted to explore nature through surreal, juxtaposed lens. I made this tree by using 28 yards of 16 gauge wire, plaster, paper mache, patina oxidation and real zipper.
